The oldest and largest LGBTQ+ publication in the United States has just endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president.
In a new editorial published earlier today, Out‘s sister publication The Advocate strongly endorses Kamala Harris for president over Donald Trump.
“Harris, the Democratic nominee, is exponentially better on every issue than her Republican opponent, Donald Trump,” The Advocate’s editors write. “Issues including reproductive freedom, the economy, and climate change. But our endorsement focuses on her LGBTQ+ rights record, which is stellar, and what she promises to do in that realm as president.”
The endorsement continues to lay out her progressive bona fides on issues like same-sex marriage, abolishing gay and trans panic defenses, being against “don’t say gay” laws, the Equality Act, and supporting trans youth.
While Harris is an obvious choice over Trump, many leftists and progressives have expressed many concerns about her and her policies.
Harris has said that she will not ban fracking, wants to increase the number of Border Patrol agents, and has moved away from her position supporting Bernie Sanders’ “Medicare for All” bill.
Additionally, she has repeatedly said that she is “unequivocal and unwavering in my commitment to Israel’s defense and its ability to defend itself, and that’s not going to change.” While she acknowledges that many innocent Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military, she also says that she will never support an arms embargo against the country.
Still, Harris’ track record, especially in regards to LGBTQ+ rights, made her The Advocate‘s choice for the next Commander in Chief.
“If she does become president, she has vowed to fight to pass the Equality Act, which would outlaw anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination nationwide,” The Advocate writes. “She also strongly opposes Project 2025, a plan meant to guide the next conservative president, as it would roll back many federal government protections for LGBTQ+ people and others. While Trump has tried to distance himself from Project 2025, he undoubtedly would try to implement many of its provisions.”
